Hella, the automotive light manufacturer has been running an interesting contest around their new HD light product. With some small cash prizes, they are looking to crowd-source ideas on how to leverage the new light system to maximize its value. Here are a few ideas I will be submitting for the contest. Please forgive the rough sketches, the goal was to communicate core concepts first. For more information on the contest please check it out here.

I will be researching any existing intellectual property around these concepts and will file for patents on the concepts, designs and any and all relevant information should there not be existing filings. 

And now for the concepts!: 

 1. Cloud Safety Mapping system to enhance dynamic lighting
Concept:

Create a cloud safety system, to proactively enhance the dynamic lighting capabilities of the HD lighting system. 

How it works:

Leveraging the dynamic light inputs and outputs, the data can be fed over LTE, wifi or alternative data connection for storage into a proprietary Cloud. Machine learning sitting on top of the cloud’s data can help provide pre-analyzed cognitive data to the lighting system to enhance the accuracy of dynamic lighting system. 


 2. Cloud Safety Mapping System for OEMs 

Concept:

Create a new revenue line by monetizing the capture of LiDar-like geospatial data and selling it to OEMs. 

How it Works:

Capture input and output environment data, send it to a proprietary Cloud over LTE, wifi or alternative data connection for storage. Process and package said data on raw and processed forms, and sell as a data set and updatable stream of data for geospatial environment data requirements.  

 3. Localized machine learning system to enhance dynamic lighting  

Concept:

Use past and existing driving data to optimize current and future dynamic lighting. 

How it Works: 
By capturing and processing environment input and output data from the lighting system, machine learning can be leveraged to recognize patterns in driving behavior that could then be coupled with GPS/location services data to proactively enhance the dynamic lighting output for an environment. 


 4. Create a new form of geospatial location data to be used in a variety of applications for location based vehicle and non-vehicle use-cases. 

Concept:

Create a new revenue line by monetizing the capture of LiDar-like geospatial data and converting said data to a unique and proprietary tagging system to represent latitudinal, longitudinal and vertical environment point. 

How it Works:

Capture input and output environment data, send it to a proprietary Cloud, over LTE, wifi or alternative data connection for storage. Process and package said data on raw and processed forms, and sell as a data set and updatable stream of data for geospatial environment data requirements.
